چکیده

The critical currents of Nb/AI, A1--oxide, AI/Nb tunnel junctions of various shapes have been measured as a function of the applied magnetic field. For the square junction and for some special shapes like the diamond, "1 + cosine" and quartic junctions the Ic (B) pattern falls off theoretically as 1/B ", with n respectively equal to 1, 2, 3 and 4. In general the measurements are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. For the "1 + cosine" and quartic shapes we found a sidelobe suppression that is even larger than that obtained in theory. For the quartic junction the first sidelobe is only 0.3% of the zero-field current. An It(B) modulation with a small, only slowly decreasing amplitude is observed for the diamond, "1 + cosine", and quartic junctions, that can be explained by rounding of the sharp edges of the junction shapes, due to the fabrication process.

Anomalous temperature dependence of the supercurrent through a chaotic Josephson junction

We calculate the supercurrent through a Josephson junction consisting of a phase-coherent metal particle (quantum dot), weakly coupled to two superconductors. The classical motion in the quantum dot is assumed to be chaotic on time scales greater than the ergodic time τerg, which itself is much smaller than the mean dwell time τdwell. The excitation spectrum of the Josephson junction has a gap ...

Manipulation and generation of supercurrent in out-of-equilibrium Josephson tunnel nanojunctions.

We demonstrate experimentally the manipulation of supercurrent in Al-AlOx-Ti Josephson tunnel junctions by injecting quasiparticles in a Ti island from two additional tunnel-coupled Al superconducting reservoirs. Both supercurrent enhancement and quenching with respect to equilibrium are achieved. We demonstrate cooling of the Ti line by quasiparticle injection from the normal state deep into t...

Superelliptic Josephson Tunnel Junctions

The most important practical characteristic of a Josephson junction is its critical current. The shape of the junction determines the specific form of the magnetic-field dependence of the its Josephson current. Here we address the magnetic diffraction patterns of specially shaped planar Josephson tunnel junctions. We focus on a wide ensemble of generalized ellipses, called superellipses, which ...

Effect of Impurities on the Josephson Current through Helical Metals: Exploiting a Neutrino Paradigm.

In this Letter we study the effect of time-reversal symmetric impurities on the Josephson supercurrent through two-dimensional helical metals such as on a topological insulator surface state. We show that, contrary to the usual superconducting-normal metal-superconducting junctions, the suppression of the supercurrent in the superconducting-helical metal-superconducting junction is mainly due t...

Josephson Current For a Graphene Nanoribbon Using a Lattice Model

A tight binding approach based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach has been used to calculate the DC Josephson current for a lattice model for S-GNR-S junctions , for short junctions with respect to superconducting coherence length. We calculate the phase, length, width and chemical potential dependence at the Josephson junction and discuss the similarities and differences with regard to the t...
